Ken Reiter - SuperintendentKenneth Frank Reiter was born on September 14, 1945 to Frank and Frances Reiter in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from the Kentucky Military Institute in 1963 and received his BA Degree from Bowling Green University in1967. He received his Masters Degress from Roosevelt University in 1971 and his Doctor of Philosphy Degree from the University of Colorado in 1995.
Before
coming to Sheridan, Ken Reiter was an English teacher, track coach,
and debate coach in Kentucky and Illinois. He moved to Colorado
in 1977. He was the principal at Casey Junior High School in Boulder,
Sinclair Middle School in Englewood, and assistant principal at
Cherry Creek. Ken became the principal of Sheridan High School
in the fall of 1986. He served as principal until 1989.
He then moved into district administration as Executive Director of Instruction and Support Services. After two years, he was promoted to the Assistant Superintendent. In 1993 he was promoted to Superintendent. Reiter said "I see my efforts in supporting the educational vision of the district slogan (Educational Vision: Traditional Values) in regard to the ways in which we will build upon the good programs that we have, despite the limited resources we have, and we can compete with districts with more money." He was Superintendent until 2000. He retired in order to spend more time with his family.
After "retiring" he bacame a professor at the University of Colorado, Denver. At UCD he taught Mater's programs in principalship and school law.
He was married to his first wife Maureen McLoughlin from 1968
to 1987 and married to his second wife Patricia Steinbach in 1992
until his death. Ken passed away on November 3, 2025 in Fort Collins,
Colorado. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, a daughter, and
three grandchildren. He is interred at Chapel Hill Cemetery in
Centennial, Colorado.
