The purpose of the Society as stated in the Articles of Incorporation is to solicit and encourage contributions to be devoted to the public use in the preservation of historic sites. Further to promote, solicit and encourage charitable, education, historic, artistic, musical and dramatic programs and events related to historic preservation.
The Articles of Incorporation also provide that the Society will seek and maintain tax exempt status according to Section 501(c)(3)of the Internal Revenue Code. And that contributions which may be given will be deductible under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. The Society is currently recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3)organization.
The Board of Trustees first met in August of 1991. They have met monthly or every other monthly since January of 1992. By laws have been adopted, exempt status obtained and maintained, membership categories have been created, stationary designed, brochures designed, and other projects begun.
