Michael Poore - Superintendent
2003 - 2007

Michael Poore was born in Kansas and raised in Colorado. He received his Bachelor's degree from Colorado State University in 1984, and earned his Master's degree from the University of Colorado in 1995.Picture of Michael Poore

Poore started his education career in District 11 in Colorado Springs as a history teacher and coach at Wasson High School and then at Doherty High School. Later he was business manager and athletic director at Mitchell High School, where he also served as assistant principal and principal.

He became the Sheridan superintendent in July, 2003. During his tenure the school district was mired in a lawsuit with the state of Colorado over the 21st Century Program. This program provides high school students the opportunity to take college courses at Arapahoe Community College. This program is still in dispute to this day.

Poore received a lot of criticisms from faculty and the community while at Sheridan. This included being an absentee superintendent. Poore continued to maintain his residence in the Colorado Springs area while at Sheridan. The district experienced high staff turnover during his tenure. While he was superintendent, the district was placed on academic watch by the state.

Webmaster note: The district had some initial success improving on the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP). It would take over a decade for the district to finally reverse the trend and get off the state "accountability clock."

Poore left Sheridan in 2007 and returned to Colorado Springs as the Deputy Superintendent in District 11. After District 11 he was Superintendent at Bentonville, Arkansas beginning in 2011. He had a successful tenure in Bentonville. He became the Superintendent of Little Rock, Arkansas schools in July of 2016.
