Judy Kary is a Denver native. Kary received her B.S. and Master of Arts in Elementary Education from University of Colorado at Denver. Judy started in Sheridan as the principal of Fort Logan Elementary School in 1993. Just prior to Fort Logan, Kary was a administrator at Centennial Elementary School in Littleton. Kary had sixteen years of elementary teaching and four years of administrative experience in both public and private schools prior to her position as principal of Fort Logan.

In 1996 she was named the Educator of the Year by the Colorado Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and has received numerous accolades for her work as a teacher.

After a brief stint as acting superintendent, Kary was promoted to superintendent position effective June 1, 2000. Judy said "I have a vision of a school community in which everyone works to together in support of student achievement…" A priority for Kary was focus on the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP). She came into the superintendent position at a time when the district was strugglling with a deficit.

Kary served as Superindent until her retirement in June of 2003. Kary came back for one more year as the principal of Fort Logan Elementary before truly retiring in 2006.
