There is a $100 fee to reserve the shelter. The fee is much higher if you are not resident of the South Suburban Park and Recreation District, or if you want to get an alcohol permit.
Do not use the online registration system, it has issues. Make
sure your reservation is for not more than eight hours. If it
is more, there is a higher charge. Make sure you list 75 or less
people attending your event. If there are more than 75 listed,
there is a higher charge. Although, the shelter is controlled
and reservations are made through South Suburban, it is on school
district property. As such, it is designated as a "Drug Free
Zone," no marijuana is allowed.
Step 1: Go to the Sheridan Recreation Center and register as resident
of the park district. Your driver's license with your Sheridan
address is sufficient proof of your residency. If you are already
registered, go to step 2.
Step 2: Call Samantha Scherrer at (303) 953-7644. She is the Permits
Specialist for South Suburban and ask her if your date is available.
For reference, her email address is: SScherrer@ssprd.org.
Step 3: If the date is available, ask her to email a reservation
form to you. It is called an "Application for Park Use."
Step 4: Complete the form and send it back to her with a check
for the fee. You can deliver it in person, but be aware, she is
not located at the Park District headquarters office. Her office
address is at 5500 Boatworks Drive, Highland Ranch, Colorado 80126.
Step 5: Be sure you receive your permit confirmation.
Step 6: Bring your permit confirmation and a copy of your reservation
form with you the day of the event.
A park ranger will be out the morning of the event to unlock
the shelter restrooms. There are no soap dispensers or paper towels
in the restrooms, so bring them with you to the event. I always
bring toilet tissue just in case. Clean up after the event or
you will get charged another fee.
If the shelter is not available, there are two alternatives available
through Englewood. They are Centennial Park and the River Run
Park (located at Broken Tee golf course between the club house
and the river).
If a class reunion organizer is having difficulty making the reservation,
they can contract Roger Rowland with the Sheridan Historical Society
at rogerbrowland@gmail.com
or (303) 881-2463 for assistance.
