Germán Echevarría - Principal
2019 - 2022

Germán grew up in Puerto Rico as young child. His family moved to South Gate, California. South Gate is located about half way between East Los Angeles and Compton in a heavily Latino populated area. He had a troubled youth after moving to California. He attended a Catholic high school in Downing, California. Germán participated in multiple sports in high school. He credited his coaches with helping him turn his life around.

Germán obtained financial aid to attend the University of California at Irvine. He was a walk on athlete in both cross country and track at UC Irvine. Germán received a Bachelor's Degree in Bilingual Education and Linguistics. He met his future wife Jamie Blair at Irvine. Jamie was also on the Irvine cross country team. Jamie was from Colorado and graduated from Mullen High School. Jamie was a state track champion while at Mullen.

During that period Germán and Jamie spent a lot of time in Colorado. After some persuasion by Jamie, they moved to Colorado.

Germán spent seven years teaching a Schmidt Elementary in the DPS system. He taught third through fifth grade. He then became a teacher at Kennedy High School. While at Kennedy he coached cross country and track. He taught AP and IB Spanish during the next four years and then became the Assistant Principal for three years. After Kennedy, he became the Assistant Principal at North High School. At North he coached cross country, wrestling, and girl's soccer. Germán is also a coach in the Youth Baseball program for Denver Parks and Recreation.

Germán had an interest in becoming a principal. He was unsuccessful in obtaining that position at Kennedy and decided to move on. With a stroke of luck, North athletic director Kevin Benji knew Pat Sandos, the new superintendent at Sheridan. With that, Germán applied for an assistant principal position at Sheridan. To the credit of the Sheridan School District administration, they saw much higher potential for Germán and selected him to be the new Co-Principal at Sheridan High School. In October, 2019 Eileen Doolan moved to the Assistant Principal position and Germán became the Principal at Sheridan High School.

When asked about his goals, Germán replied: "My goal is [for Sheridan] to be a model high school within a model district. To be creative and out of the box towards post secondary goals after Sheridan."

Germán and Jamie live in north Denver and have two children
