Sheridan School Resource Officer named as 2026 Parade Grand Marshal.

Picture of Officer Ken ChavezSheridan Police Department's School Resource Officer (SRO), Ken Chavez, will be honored as the Grand Marshal for the 2026 Sheridan Celebrates Cultures of Colorado Grand Parade on Saturday, September 26. 2026.

Chavez has worked as a police officer for 42 years, serving as an SRO for 28 years, the last five have been in the Sheridan Schools. Chavez is the longest serving SRO in America. He shared, "It has been said that a School Resource Officer is the most noble assignment in the police department.

My job is to protect the children." Chavez has been protecting children for most of his law enforcement career. He builds positive relationships with kids. Many relationships last a lifetime. He regularly experiences heartfelt encounters with adults that he knew as kids and several of the Sheridan parents are his ex-students. During his years in Sheridan. Chavez has walked with the middle or high school youth in the Sheridan Celebrates Grand Parade. This year, he will lead the parade as Grand Marshal.
