PIcture of John VaglientiKorean War Vet Honored as 2025 Sheridan Celebrates Grand Marshal. A longtime Sheridan resident, VFW Post #9644 member and retired Sheridan Schools teacher, John Vaglienti is the right guy to be honored as the 2025 Sheridan Celebrates Grand Marshal.

Vaglienti has lived in Sheridan since 1960 and served on City Council from [1968-1969]. He also joined VFW Post #9644 in 1962. Vaglienti taught Sheridan Schools students for a total of 27 years. Most of his instructional years were focused on fifth and sixth grade students.

After Vaglienti’s service in the Army, he returned to his home in West Virginia. He then came west to Gunnison to achieve higher education at Western State College of Colorado. The college has since changed its name to Western Colorado University. Vaglienti’s first teaching assignment was coaching at Telluride High School. He coached football, basketball and volleyball. Vaglienti worked a short while in Dillon teaching sixth graders before moving to Sheridan.

As part of his membership at VFW Post #9644, Vaglienti carried the American Flag in the Sheridan Celebrates Grand Parade. As you can see, there’s no more fitting candidate for the 2025 Grand Parade Marshal than John Vaglienti. So how does it feel to be the nominated as the Grand Marshal of the Sheridan Celebrates Parade? Vaglienti stated, “I was really surprised. With the amount of time that I have lived in Sheridan, it’s nice to be honored.”

Webmaster Note: John is ninety-three years old. He also served on the Sheridan School Board from 2003 through 2007.
